MISSOURI LEGISLATION
Why Support Representative Brian Nieves?

The English Only Amendment will be on the November 2008 ballot.  Please pass the word along and encourage and help citizens get to the polls to vote for this.

The present Speaker Pro Tem of the Missouri House, Representative Carl Bearden (District 16), will be vacating his position early and a special election will be held within the House for that post, probably in late August or September 2007.  Representative Nieves is the lead candidate for this position and if he wins the Pro Tem election, he will hold the #2 post in the House for his
final 3 years as a Missouri Representative.

Representative Nieves has demonstrated his patriotism, his perseverance, and his commitment to protecting our American culture by his English Only Resolution.  He never backed down from his values but continued his fight to protect our language for four years and he won.  Representative Nieves also played a valuable role as a member of the Special House Committee on Immigration Reform in 2006, which held hearings in cities throughout Missouri to find out the truth about legal and illegal immigration in our State.

Representative Nieves is the only member of the House who has as much experience at the leadership table as the current Speaker of the House, Rod Jetton.  When the Speaker leaves the House in about a year, Representative Nieves will be the senior person holding a leadership post, whether he becomes Pro Tem or remains Majority Whip.  There are currently 7 leadership posts and Representative Nieves currently holds #4 – the top 3 posts will all leave in a year or less.  Representative Nieves is very familiar with dealing with Senate Leadership and the Governor’s office and that experience and his presence at the leadership table is how he almost
single-handedly delivered the English HJR Resolution.

It will not only be great for Representative Nieves if he wins the Pro Tem position, it will be great for all of us Missourians who believe in reasonable, representative government based on the values of our Country and of our people.  I hope you will join me in supporting Representative Brian Nieves in whatever way you can.

English as the Official State Language

This year we passed a proposed constitutional amendment that would make English the official language of Missouri. Upon voter approval, this amendment will designate English as the language for all official proceedings in Missouri. For the government to act officially, it would have to communicate in English. It would also mean the language of record is the English language, and that no one has a right to demand government services in any other language. As one of the resolution’s sponsors has said, a common language is the cornerstone of a cohesive and united country and clarifying that English should be that language is simply common sense.
